7th Grade “Rockin’ Readers” hard at work
8th grade geography class is studying North America. Each student picked two states and created their state flags. Then they researched and added the area, population, and capital of each of their states.
The halls of the high school smelled absolutely divine as students began cutting and baking the walls of their gingerbread houses today!! Here is 2nd hour hard at work!! Final products will be posted later in the week :)
The 4th graders have been learning about The First People that lived in our country during social studies. They have learned about the Paleo and Archaic People along with the Mound Builders and Native Americans. The kids loved learning about the Native American culture by watching some videos on powwows and learning a traditional Native American game called ‘moccasin game.’ You and your family can learn how to play as well!

Members of AHS National Honor Society rang the bell for the Salvation Army of Marathon County this past weekend. They raised over $500 in 9 shifts and 3 days. Many thanks to A & L Oil and River Country Co-op for allowing the students to ring at their businesses.
Come out on December 19 from 12pm to 3pm, and support the Athens FFAs Drive-Through Canned Food Drive! FFA members will be collecting canned food items for the Circle of Joy at the VFW Pavilion at the Fairgrounds. Just drive up and drop off your donation. The FFA will be matching the donations.
Today, the 3rd graders wanted to show appreciation towards the brave men and women who serve as our police officers and firefighters! Students in English 11 continue to work on their Career Research Papers to complete them before Winter Break.
Chemistry students are learning about intermolecular forces and bonding so we took a quick break from notes to see how hydrogen bonding between water molecules can support paper clips.

Our Superkids reading curriculum features Sal. He is a boy who not only teaches kindergartners about the letter “S,” he also teaches us about different sports. These kindergartners tried casting fishing poles and playing jacks.

With the year we have been having, I decided to put up a Thankful Tree in my classroom. Each of my students had the opportunity to write down what they were Thankful for and put it on the tree as the ornaments. I believe that even with all the ups and downs this year has brought, we need to be Thankful for everything we have now. A couple of the messages are “I am thankful for the fact that teachers are still trying to make school fun.” “I am thankful for the life I get to live, and all the great people in it.” “I am thankful for the veterans and the people currently serving in the military.” Don’t forget to be Thankful this holiday season!
