Our littlest foxes at MGCS sported huge smiles while "sensing the forest" last week. Reviewing our five senses is always enjoyable outdoors, but fresh snow only added to the experience! ❄️

March has been all about maple syrup for the 4th grade foxes at Maple Grove! A big thank you to those who helped us tap our trees, as well as Mrs. Hanson's family who helps with turning our sap into syrup! We have enjoyed taste testing and comparing different types of syrup as well as enjoying syrup with French toast sticks and ice cream. Our sap collecting helps us to work on our team work and perseverance!

During Read Across America Week, learners that met January reading goals were able to celebrate their accomplishments by playing games! The games brought laughter, collaboration, and CRISP traits in recognizing these reading foxes 🦊 Goals are set by learners with their classroom teachers and it is amazing to see so many learners having the excitement for reading! Read Across America week reignited the fire for so many learners to continue to do their best and persevere these next months of the school year😄📚

This quarter, Ms. Szutkowski's fifth-grade class delved into entrepreneurship and basic design principles, sparking creativity that led to the creation of stunning logos for our 2024 maple syrup bottles. After a school-wide vote, fifth-grader Briana B. emerged as the talented artist behind the winning design. Thanks to a collaboration with Athens High School, we were able to bring these designs to life with beautifully printed labels. If you're eager to savor Maple Grove's pure maple syrup, reach out to a Maple Grove student or contact Maple Grove Charter School at 715-257-2199. 🍁

January and February were busy months for Maple Grove Charter School's 4th grade Outdoor Lab students. Concepts studied were animals and insulation, how animals get energy, bears and their defense behaviors, and how polar bears are adapted to their environment. We also enjoyed learning about rabbits and FFA with Mrs. Bunkleman and a Herpetology presentation by UWSP students.

Turtles, snakes, and salamanders... oh my! Last week, some of our Maple Grove foxes walked on the wild side with a visit from UWSP's Herpetology Society. Curricular connections included a study of adaptations of reptiles and amphibians and their ecosystems in third grade, animal defense mechanisms in fourth grade, and biodiversity and conservation in fifth grade.

Ms. Etten’s first graders are soaring in to the next Module of EL by becoming ornithologist. The next few months they will learn characteristics of birds, habitats of different birds, birds native to our area, and specifically how to care for birds! This is where the excitement came in on Friday when 6 different feeders were hung. Learners explored and researched what food was appropriate for each feeder and what birds would be attracted. One of the feeding stations housing 3 different feeders is perfectly located for bird viewing from our first grade classroom. Beginning next week, graphing by learners will monitor food consumption, common bird appearances, and environmental challenges/advantages. The Maple Grove CRISP traits were very prevalent in assembling, filling, and hanging the feeders as they will be over the next months. Thank you to the Kariger family for building our beautiful bird feeding stands!

We made it 100 days at school! Learners and staff celebrated our 100th day of school on Friday at MGCS. We celebrated by dressing like we were 100 years old or wearing something with 100 items. There was so much creativity! Learners also participated in a 100 fox 🦊 hunt with 100 foxes hidden throughout our school. It took learners until 2:57 to find the very last one but they pulled it off! Way to go!
