Ta da! After 20 minutes of perseverance and respectful communication, they crafted a Fox puzzle.
These illustrations and descriptions are what make us each unique and special.
We kicked off the morning at MGCS with a Recess Rodeo! Learners and staff came dressed for the occasion 🤠 Our Fox 🦊 Dens, which are a mixture of K-5 learners, rotated through 6 stations outside on both our upper and lower playground to go over recess safety and expectations. Yee-Haw!

Maple Grove Charter School is excited to announce that we are a proud recipients of Trout in the Classroom, a program sponsored by Trout Unlimited. Trout Unlimited sponsors all the supplies and fish to make this learning possible. Although this will be a whole school learning opportunity, our third grade classroom will take the lead on it as an extension of one of their literacy units throughout the year with a focus on the study of water. Our trout eggs are set to arrive in early November and we will raise them throughout the year. Thank you to Al Hauber, Kirk Stark, and Perry Nikolai from the The Wisconsin River Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited for your time and knowledge of the delivery and set up of the tank! Another HUGE shout-out to a grandparent of one of our learner's at our school, Bob Lange, who designed and built our beautiful trout tank stand. It's beautiful and fits the space perfectly! THANK YOU!

During the month of July, three Maple Grove Charter School teachers were fortunate enough to attend the 2023 School Forest Summit at the Merrill School Forest. While teachers are familiar with taking students there, this was a different experience for the memory book. Teachers laced up their hiking shoes and became one with the forest. The time was well spent networking with other educators, learning from professionals in the forestry field, and professional development opportunities of how the information can be applied to the teaching of students at Maple Grove charter school. A few of the highlights included opportunities to work with personal solar panels and learning to use a Biltmore stick to estimate the diameter of the trunk, as well as the height of the tree. The summit also had its first maple syrup tasting contest. The 2023 maple syrup produced by MGCS students and staff was the winning syrup!!! This opportunity was made possible through grant funding and provided such an amazing experience for these staff members! Thank you to UWSP and Merrill School Forest for putting together the summit.

The Maple Grove Charter School has been selected as a host site for the Trout in the Classroom project beginning in Fall 2023. Thank you to the Wisconsin River Valley Chapter for making this educational opportunity possible. The Trout in the Classroom program is tightly aligned with Maple Grove’s mission which is to “develop the whole child through the provision of exploratory experiences where students will engage in hands-on approach in project development through cultural connections to our traditions, opportunities and our greater community.” Stewardship is one of the five CRISP traits that we strive to grow in our students. Caring for these cold water trout and learning about their aquatic habitat needs will inspire students and adults to protect and conserve our local waterways. We do need to provide a stand for our new tank. We are wondering if anyone has a tank stand, in good condition, laying around for us to have or purchase that is about 13 inches wide and 48 1/2 inches long? If you do, please email Robin Hanson at rhanson@athens1.org. Thank you for checking.

Our ladies and gentlemen were finally able to come home, to MGCS, today! They love all the room of the new coop we purchased through our Charter School Implementation Grant. Look at how much our chicks grew in just 10 short weeks! From fluffy, little chicks to smooth, gorgeous teenagers. The kids will be so excited to see them when they come back to school! A huge shout-out to the Flory family for taking such great care of them until our coop was set and ready to go!
