Athens High School is able to offer both one and two year youth apprenticeship programs, in partnership with Northcentral Technical College and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.

Students who complete these programs receive a State-Issued Skill Certificate and gain advanced standing credits toward a technical college associate degree. Students must apply your sophomore or junior year to be eligible for a one or two-year apprenticeship during your junior and/or senior year.

Students must help pursue a place of employment for the 1 or 2-year commitment. This program provides paid, mentored, hands-on learning at the job site combined with classroom instruction.

Program areas include: Auto Collision, Auto Technician, Drafting/Architecture/Mechanical Design, Engineering, Financial Services, Health Services, Hotel/Motel, Information Technology, Insurance, Logistics, Manufacturing, Production Technician, Machining, Printing/Graphic Arts, Tourism, Welding, Business, Agriculture (Plant Science) or (Animal Science).

Alex Erickson is an alumni Youth Apprentice who participated in the Information Technology program. Alex worked as a Youth Apprentice for his school district, but upon high school graduation was selected for the IT Scholars Program through Church Mutual Insurance Company. Alex continues to work for Church Mutual Insurance Company on their IT support team.
